Nunzie Angelo Yocono, 86, of Akron, passed away March 30, 2013. He was born in Akron, OH on July 16, 1926 to the late Dominic and Mary Yocono.
After attending North High School, Nunzie, a first generation American, whose Father Dominic and Mother Mary immigrated from Italy, was called to service in the U.S. Cavalry. He later became an Army Sergeant in the 813th Military Police Battalion and was sent to the Philippines during WWII, after which he was decorated and honorably discharged in 1946. He went on to be a successful business owner and restaurateur, in both California and Ohio. He was an avid gin rummy player, winning high level tournaments. He enjoyed playing with many of his friends.
He joins his wife, Gina and daughter, Marisa. He is survived by sister, Sally (Ray) Cook; sons, Dominic (Stephanie), John, James (Jeanette); 7 grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a very loving, devoted father and grandfather and a proud Roman Catholic. Private family inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
