Norma L. Harshbarger-Shanafelt, 96, went to be with her Lord on January 19th, 2026.
She was born to Hollis and Edith (Turner) Howe in Westernport, Maryland on September 8, 1929. A graduate from Bruce High School, she then worked as school secretary. Norma was a beloved wife, loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life was a testament to her deep faith and unwavering devotion to her family.
Blessed with 47 years of marriage to Herbert T. Harshbarger, Jr, they raised their three children in Mogadore, Ohio. After Herb’s passing, she was later united in marriage to Richard Shanafelt, enjoying seven happy years together until his passing.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, brother, William Howe (Emma), brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Harshbarger, Chester and Doris Harshbarger, son-in-law, David L. Weidaw, Sr. , and step-son Terry Kettering.
Surviving are daughters Linda Weidaw, Cathy (David R.) Calvelli, son Richard H. (Deborah) Harshbarger, and step- children Candace (David) Smith and Joy Kettering.
Norma cherished her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces who gave her great joy.
Calling hours are Sunday, January 25th 2-4 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 and 1 hour prior to the funeral service which will be held Monday, January 26th 11 am at the Springfield Church of the Brethren, 3500 Albrecht Ave, Akron 44312. Burial at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to Springfield Church of the Brethren.
