Nelson Lee Swiger

Nelson L. Swiger, 74, of Atwater, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Wednesday September 23, 2026.

He was born on December 25, 1951, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Roger W. Swiger and Norma M. Swiger {Ball}. Nelson graduated from Lake High School, Class of 1969. After graduation he enlisted and was a proud Army veteran. In 1973, he married his beloved wife, Darlene Bond, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. They had two daughters Lisa {Swiger} Walker and Susan {Swiger} Ward. He worked for Goodyear Tire and in 1983. He graduated Cum Laude from Buckeye College earning an associate’s degree for computer programming. He then followed his self taught passion for working with his hands. He was a contractor for Hartville Hardware till retirement.

Nelson was a man who loved the quiet freedom of the outdoors. He was happiest when he was woodworking, hunting, or spending time in nature. Forever a self taught learner of many passions/ hobbies. Guitar, painting, farming, horse back riding, raising miniature Herefords, technology and finance to name a few. Known for his craftsmanship and deep love for his family, he left behind beautiful memories and handmade treasures that his family will always cherish.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his daughters, Lisa (Jim) Walker and Susan Ward; his grandchildren, Kara, Carlee, Joe, and Samantha; and his brother, Dan (Cyndi) Swiger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Norma Swiger, and his brother, John Swiger.

Per Nelson’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
