Mondell Wilhelmina Baker
Mondell, 96, arrived peacefully in the arms of her Savior on December 24, 2015. She was born in Akron on July 14, 1919 to the late Alfred and Wilhelmina Riley. Mondell was a longtime member of Brown Street Baptist Church where she volunteered in the nursery for 50 years. An avid sports fan, Mondell played volleyball and softball for many years. She loved to knit and will always be remembered for the sweaters she lovingly made for her grandchildren and the children in the church nursery. She also made caps and booties for Akron Children's Hospital. In her later years, Mondell loved taking road trips with her sister Dru. They crossed the country together several times.
In addition to her parents, Mondell was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Baker; daughter, Peggy Patrick; son, James Baker; and great-grandson, Blake Baker. She will be deeply missed by her children, Bruce (Joyce) Baker, Becky Hendricks, Joan Currey, and Cathy Morrison; sister, Dru Everett; brothers, Robert and Joe Riley; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 31, 2015 from 10-11:30 followed by an 11:30 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Robert Kuhns officiating at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
