Mildred Grace Buchanan

July 30, 1920 — June 18, 2015

Mildred "Midge" Grace Buchanan (Gibson)
Midge Buchanan died peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on July 30, 1920 in Akron, OH and graduated from Kenmore High School. During World War II, she married William Evert Buchanan (Bill). They lived in Portage Lakes their entire lives. Bill passed away in 1988. Mildred was a full time homemaker, devoted to her family and was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was very active at Hope Lutheran Church, sold Avon products, and had her chauffeur's license; picking up kids and driving them to vocational school.
Midge was the most kind, compassionate, caring, loving person you had ever met. She never raised her voice or had a harsh word to say about anyone or anything. She was a second mom to all the neighborhood kids and to all of her son's John and her daughter Lisa's friends. Midge loved animals, birds, flowers, and butterflies and saw beauty in nature. She was always helping her children "nurse" back to health baby animals they would bring home and enjoyed feeding all the squirrels, birds, and ducks in the neighborhood! Midge got to travel the entire USA, taking month long trips with her family, experiencing all the National Parks and attractions! Mildred was a great lady and will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents, Harry and May Gibson; and sister, Helen Pasnik. She leaves her devoted son, John David (who took care of her for many years) of Akron, OH; daughter, Lisa (Ron) Blidar of Denver, CO; niece and nephew, Lori Pasnik and Mike (Sheri) Pasnik, all of New Franklin Twp, OH.
Mildred's funeral service will be Monday, June 22, 2015 at 11:00 at the Ivy Chapel in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 2580 Romig Rd., Akron, OH 44320. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
