Listen to Obituary

With deep sorrow our family announces the passing of Michael Coe Sturm, age 69, who courageously battled metastatic cancer and passed away on August 21st, 2025. He was born on July 23rd, 1956, and raised in Cuyahoga Falls, later residing in Akron.

Michael is a beloved son of the late Coe and Elizabeth Sturm, a devoted and proud father to Ryan Coe and daughter-in-law Kristin Sturm, and loving partner to Velma Carr, who cared for Michael throughout his cancer diagnosis one year ago this month. He was a cherished big brother to Lisa (Tim) Heineman and a proud grandfather to Jenna (Trey) Darak, Madison, and Camden Coe of Fairlawn.

A lifelong Cleveland sports fan, Michael was also a true car enthusiast and an aficionado of black-and-white television classics. He had an incredible memory for movies - you could name any film, and he would immediately tell you the year it was made. He worked many years at Rohrick Corporation in Akron and later retired in 2025 from H&M Metals in Kenmore.

Michael had a deep love for animals and will be especially missed by his three beloved furry companions who brought him so much joy. His greatest pride, however, was always his family and friends, who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.

We will miss his funny, quirky sense of humor and how he would sign his cards: "P.S. Have a great day." We are comforted in the fact that he is no longer suffering, united with family, friends, and his beloved animals. Truly a gentle giant at 6 ft 6 in, rest easy, Michael.

Cremation is taking place, and a celebration of life will occur at a later date. Please consider donating in Michael's name to the Humane Society of Summit County.
