Michael J. “Mike” Morris, a beloved carpenter and professional goofball, has taken his final drill bit and hammer to the great worksite in the sky as of May 31, 2025. Born on February 11, 1953, in Akron, Ohio, Mike was clearly destined to carve his name into the world—quite literally, as he spent many of his years as a carpenter for CSX Railroad and in construction. If wood could talk, you would hear tales of his witty banter and shenanigans that left many a tree shaking in laughter.
Mike was a proud graduate of East High School, which famously prepared him not only for carpentry but also for a life filled with family, laughter, and a slightly questionable taste in music (we're looking at you, Pink Floyd). His charm was only eclipsed by his uncanny ability to turn every worksite into a stand-up comedy special. Friends often wondered whether they should call him ‘the master builder’ or ‘the master jokester.’
As a devoted family man who loved nothing more than spending time with his clan, Mike always reminded everyone that while nailing up boards was essential, nailing down family memories was even more important. He is survived by his loving wife Margie "Paula", his mother Marie Morris, and several children who surely inherited his humor: Ashley (Tommy) Barber, Amanda (Marcos Martinez) Roberts, Megan, Marissa, and Marli Morris. Let's just say if a gold medal could be awarded for producing capable comedians.
Mike was also the proud Papaw to Natalie, Rory, and Chevy, alongside Elizabeth, Quentin, and Liam. Adding to this already busy clan were his siblings: Madison (Beth) Morris, Michelle Higgins, Mark (Robin) Morris, Matthew (Ellen) Morris, and Marty (Dawn) Morris, who often had to remind him that 'goofing off' was not an official profession (though we all know it should be).
In his spare time, Mike enjoyed swinging his clubs on the golf course and passionately cheering on his Cleveland Browns and Ohio State football teams—sometimes on the same day, wearing a shirt for each! His dance moves were legendary, inspiring many to wonder whether they should applaud or search for an instruction manual.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and the occasional floorboard that squeaks because it remembers him. Though his father, Madison Morris, precedes him in death we are certain he has one heck of a joke waiting for his son up there. So, grab your popcorn, folks—Michael J. Morris may be gone, but he’s undoubtedly making St. Peter crack up with his punchlines in paradise.
Visitation will be Sunday June 8th from 1-3 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home. A celebration of Life service will begin promptly at 3 PM.
