Melanie Cheri Sickle-McHood
January 15, 1962 - December 21, 2025.
Melanie was born and raised in Akron, OH to Frank Wayne McHood and Jenny Isabel McHood. She passed away on December 21 after a long journey with cancer. Cancer didn’t stop her from enjoying life and traveling with family and friends over the last few years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Jenny McHood.
She is survived by long time companion and love Robert Peacock, brothers Frank (Leca), Rodney (Tami), sisters Jami (Donnie), Gloria Garland, nephews and nieces Jason (Jennifer), Jenipher, Pete, Jessica (Will), great nephews and nieces Noah (Lauren), Jacob (Bianca), Caleb, Jennifer, Austin, Maddy, Olivia, great-great niece Nova, and sisters from another mother Delores (Dee Dee) Heasley, Louise (Weesey) Asay and Kelly Chapman.
Born and raised in Akron, she was in the Ellet class of 1980. She traveled and lived in many places as a young adult including Spain and Arizona. While she lived most of her adult life in Ohio, she loved traveling: specifically a cruise (including a beverage bill that made Grandma Jenny shake her head in disbelief), Brazil, Florida, California, and Disney. She was the aunt that had all the fun and the 2nd mother to many of those nieces and nephews. She always let them do fun things they could never do at home, like taking them to their first Paula Abdul concert, to building snowmen inside Grandma Jenny’s house on a tarp, to driving the blue Astro van at just 10 years old, to baking cookies with underwear on their heads, or just letting them have an imagination and accept their weirdness. Every single one of those nieces and nephews have stories they could tell and probably did not tell their parents for years. She would wake up her nieces and nephews by singing “You Are My Sunshine”, on December 21 she fell asleep and woke up to her mom singing “You Are My Sunshine” to her.
