Maxine June Kalapodis, 80, went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2014. She was born in Akron on June 15, 1933 to the late Robert and Orpha Berry. For a time, Maxine worked at Goodyear and modeled for the company's advertisements. Most of her life was devoted to raising her family. Maxine was a longtime member of The Chapel. She had many interests, including reading, gardening, and traveling. She loved to visit casinos and meet with her card club. She was an excellent cook. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Kalapodis; daughter, Vicki Kalapodis; three brothers and three sisters. She will be deeply missed by her children, William Kalapodis, Thalia (Daniel) Wisard, Jim (Vesna) Kalapodis, and Chris Kalapodis; ten grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Friday April 4 from 4-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron and Saturday April 5 from 10-11 followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service at The Chapel Memorial Chapel, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, with Pastor Mike Castelli officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
