With reverence for God's divine will and trust in His unfailing promises, we reflect on a life faithfully lived. In his gentle mercy, Almighty God called His daughter home. On Saturday, December 13, 2025, He peacefully closed the eyes of our beloved Maxine, granting her eternal rest in His presence.
Maxine Lee Avent was born March 14, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Simon and Carrie Mae Lee. Maxine graduated from North High School and later attended and graduated from the University of Akron, University of Phoenix and Grand Canyon University. Maxine worked many years at Rossmor Industries in Twinsburg, OH, Cleveland Clinic Visiting Nurse services and lastly retiring from Akron Public Schools.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, NC and Roberta Avent. Brothers Cornelius and Irving Lee. Sister Catherine Craft. Maxine married her soul-mate and the absolute love of her life, James Avent, her husband and companion for over 56 years. She also leaves her two daughters and a son to cherish her memory.
Maxine was known for her quiet and gentle spirit and her deep love for her family. Her beautiful smile reflected the kindness and warmth she carried within. She found joy in knitting Afghans and blankets, sewing and making clothes, bowling, working puzzles and working in her yard. Above all her greatest passion was teaching and educating children. She had a special passion for teaching children in special education and deeply valued the opportunity to support and inspire them as well as spending cherished time with her grandchildren.
Maxine leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband James Avent. Daughters: Kimberly (Craig) Henson, Consuelo Avent. Son: Richard (Detra) Avent. Sisters Barbara Jean Smith and Marshalle Lee. Sister-in-law Geraldine Avent. Brothers: Andrew and Terry Lee. Brother-in-law Charles (Rutha) Avent.
Grandchildren who affectionately called her Nona: Jalon, Jasmine, Mikailia, Marcus, Tony, Richard, James, Siera, Alexa, Aaron and Aiden. 26 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves her furbaby Mossimo.
Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, December 26, 2025 from 11 a.m to 12 noon at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home.
