Mary Jane Brannon, age 90, of Akron, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024 at The Village of St. Edward at Green. She was born on August 5, 1934 to the late John and Frances Smrekar in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Hower Vocational School in Akron, Ohio.
Mary Jane retired as a cosmetologist teacher from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio in 1996.
She was a member of many organizations such as the Retired Teachers Organization and Delta Kappa Gamma Theta Organization. She also volunteered her time at Blossom Music Center, proctored at NEO Medical University and Blood Mobile.
Mary Jane is survived by her loving daughters, Colleen Begue and Michelle Brannon; son, Steve Brannon; grandchildren, Lauren Begue (Josh Owen) and Jillian Begue, Blake and Ryan Miller, Shane and Tyler Schnert and Nicholas and Dillon Brannon; great-grandchildren, Josephine and Lucas Owen; siblings, Barbara Mesek, Colleen Reese, Virginia D'Antony and Judith Desio; as well as many friends, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Debbie Sehnert and Nicholas Brannon; siblings, Jack Smrekar, Frances McCammon, Margaret Jaber, Johanna Perge, Rita Reedy, Bernadine Ward, Connie Springer and Patricia McPhillips.
Per Mary Jane's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church (1800 Steese Rd, Uniontown, OH 44685) from 11am until the time of her Funeral Mass at 12pm. Reverend David Durkee will officiate.
She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery with her sisters, Rita Reedy and Bernadine Ward.
