Marvin D. Hendershot, 79, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015. He is survived by his son, Edward (Dawn) and three grandchildren, Devon, Ethan, and Miranda all living in Maryland; daughter, Patricia Hendershot-Grant (Paul) of California; sister-in-law, Mary Abbott of Cuyahoga Falls. He graduated from Ellet High School in 1953. He worked at Goodyear Aircraft before hiring into Goodyear Tire & Rubber where he finished at the Tech Center as an inspector for NASCAR race tires. He accumulated 23 years of service. During his time at Goodyear he served 22 years with the U.S. Reserve then in 1980 went on active duty for 15 years as a USAR Recruiter working for the Cleveland Recruiting Command, retiring from the Army in 1995. After his divorce in 1972 he spent many good years in the Akron Chapter of Parents without Partners where he served on many committees mainly as their Disc Jockey for the Saturday night dances. While in this singles group he met many long lasting friends. He was a member of the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church in Akron, Ohio. He served three years as an Elder. His hobbies were music from the fifties and the big band era. He enjoyed photography and had a large collection of old time radio shows. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Akron, Ohio 44305. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, January 12, 2015 9:00am with Pastor Brian T. Nutt officiating. Burial will follow at 11:00am in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the USO.
