On Sunday, June 28, 2015 after a short battle with cancer, Marian Ann Rounds passed away. She was born October 28, 1952 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late Frank and Annie Diggers
Marian was known to many as Mamma Rounds because she cared for everyone she met as one of her own children. Always ready with a kind word, good advice, or an amazing meal. No one ever left Mamma Rounds' house hungry.
Marian was very active in the Akron Public Schools where her children graduated. While serving as PTA president at Hatton Elementary School she was awarded the Golden Acorn Award, the highest honor in the state for Volunteer service. Marian continued to participate in her children's activities where she found great joy in helping with the musicals at Ellet High School and dressing all "her Kids" in amazing one of a kind costumes.
Marian was always willing to help in any way she could. In 1989 from her home, she organized relief efforts for hurricane Hugo, acquiring enough donations and medical supplies to fill 3 semi-trailers to send to the people and hospital in South Carolina that were hit the hardest by the storm.
Marian was employed at First Energy for 10 years in Executive Catering and for 11 years she was employed at the Sam's Club in Fairlawn where she helped organize fundraising efforts for her favorite charities, Children's Miracle Network and the MS Society.
Marian's memory will live on through her husband John of 43 years. Her legacy is her children, Jason Rounds and Julie Lowe (Robert), her precious grand-babies Marissa and Gavin Lowe. Her Sisters Donna Smyly (Greg), Sandra Florence (Leon). Her Brother David Driggers and her many nieces, nephews and all of her other children at Sam's Club.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 2, 2015 from 1pm to 3pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd Akron with a memorial service to follow at 3pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Oak Clinic for Multiple Sclerosis, 3838 Massillon Rd, Suite 360 Uniontown, Ohio 44685.
