It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Margaret (Peg) Jane Marcum, age 85, a long-time resident of Akron, Ohio. Margaret left this world peacefully at her home on July 7, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Steubenville, Ohio, Margaret was the beloved daughter of James and Elizabeth Gershom. She was married to Clarence (Ted) Marcum for 62 wonderful years, a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
She leaves behind her husband Clarence (Ted) Marcum and her loving family, including her son, Mark (Julie) Marcum, and daughter, Tara Costanzo in addition to her brother, Ronald (Connie) Gershom, and sister-in-law, Linda Gershom. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Nikole (Bo) Kennedy, Thomas Marcum, Dakota (Michael) Rice, Colton (Emily) Costanzo, and Steven (Jane) Marcum, as well as her great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Robert, Everett, Avery, Marshall, Casen, and Bennett. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, James (Laura) Gershom, Marybelle (Virgil) Hebert, Robert (Jan) Gershom, Richard Gershom, and Kenneth (Nancy) Gershom.
Her greatest accomplishments were the unwavering bond she shared with her husband and the love and pride she had for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Margaret had a passion for reading and found joy in watching LeBron James and listening to Garth Brooks and Elvis Presley.
Margaret's career was marked by dedication and hard work at Signet Jewelers, Oneil’s, and B. F. Goodrich.
Margaret's gentle spirit, unwavering love, and boundless kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will forever remain in our hearts.
Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Summa Care and Summa Hospice Teams for their compassionate care during her final days.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Friday July 11th from 10 AM- 11 AM. Funeral services begin at 11 AM with Pastor Stephen Neumeyer officiating. A burial follows at Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Foundation of America.
