Mae L. Matthews
Mae L. Matthews, 93, of Akron, passed away on October 25, 2015. She was born on August 29, 1922 to the late John and Ellen Rydgig. Mae retired as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. She loved traveling and had many fond memories of road trips with friends and family. Mae was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherri Brannon; four sisters; and one brother. She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Barbara Cole. She was also a proud grandmother to her grandchildren: Scott (Mandy) Backus, Doug (Rebecca) Backus, and Jennifer Apati (Steve Rutkowski) and her great-grandchildren: Jon, Spencer, Justin, Merritt, Scarlett, and Stella. Mae also leaves many special nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
