Mabel Vrabel
Mabel Vrabel, 96, passed away September 10, 2014 at her home. She was an Akron resident her entire life.
Married 59 years to husband, Robert Vrabel and enjoyed all aspects of family life. She accompanied him on the golf cart on many golfing occasions.
A graduate of North High School and awarded valedictorian of her class, she retired from the Title Bureau under Jim McCarthy and was an active volunteer in the Democratic Party locally and nationally greeting John Glenn when he came to help in the Democratic national elections.
Mabel was awarded life time membership of Polish League of American Veterans Post #32 and was president of their Ladies Auxiliary.
She worked in the now famous Polsky's Department Store in the Designer Sports Wear and was a store model.
She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Mabel was compassionate, loving, caring and always helpful to all the family.
She is survived by husband, Robert Vrabel; children, Sonya Heckman (Harvey) of Akron, Susan Thorburn (John) of Midlotian VA; grandchildren, Laura Heckman, Brittany and Kyle Thorburn; sister-in-law, Marie Karbowicz; and many nieces and nephews. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Jennie (nee Wojchiwhowski) & Waclaw Karbowicz; and brother, Casmir Karbowicz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Church, 2603 Benton Ave., Akron OH 44312.
Friends will be received at St. Matthew Church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. where a Memorial Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Williamson presiding.
