Lois Jean Thorn

March 11, 1932 — July 16, 2025

Akron

Lois Jean Thorn, 93, of Akron, passed away on July 16, 2025. She was born in Williamstown, West Virginia on March 11, 1932 to the late James and Minnie Dye.

At the age of eleven, Lois, her sister, and her mother moved to Zanesville, Ohio to live with aunts while her father established himself in Akron. Eventually the family joined him and Lois attended Garfield High School. A chance meeting on a local bus with Patrick Thorn led to a romance that lasted over 65 years. Lois and Patrick married on July 15, 1948 and their family eventually grew to include four children. Lois held several jobs over the years, but her main focus was always raising her children. She was a gifted seamstress, making clothing for her daughters and an excellent homemaker.

Lois and Patrick had a close group of friends that they enjoyed spending time with. In particular, they loved going to the theater to see the latest films.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Thorn in 2014; sister, Sylvia Stauffer; grandson, Steven Davis; mother-in-law, Alvada Thorn; and daughter-in-law, Melanie Thorn.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Sharane Antonette of Portland, OR, Sandra (Gurinder) Rana of Medina, OH, Mark Thorn of Barberton, OH and special friend, Mary Lou Symanski, and April (David) Sommers of Kent, OH; grandchildren, Christian Perry of Munroe Falls, OH, Renee (John) Dyer of Parker, CO, Dr. Rich (Gayle) Rana of Vienna, VA, Adam Davis of Newport, NC; great-grandchildren, Max, Mia, Sasha, Franco, Annabelle, and Hannah. She also leaves many special in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Thanks to all of the Danbury Staff for all of their help and kindness. Also, a big thank you to CorsoCare Hospice for all of their love and kindness to our mom.

Lois will be privately laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
