Leroy "Joe" Somerville
Leroy "Joe" Somerville passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the age of 92.
Joe was born in Altoona, PA, but lived most of his life in Akron, OH. Joe was a WWII veteran and retired from the Ohio Carpenters Union Local 639. He spent most of his life working in construction, which is what he loved to do. Even in his last days, he thought he was still hanging dry wall and wanting to make sure it was done right. He always thought if you didn't work with your hands, you couldn't consider what you did for a living as work. He lived in a white t-shirt and tan pants, and would add a plaid shirt on colder days-and always had a can of snuff in his pocket until recently, when he decided to quit after 82 years. His favorite saying was "people die in bed" and that's why he was always up at 4 a.m.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Clarence and Sylvia; wife Marjorie; daughter, Linda Blakey; grandchildren, Kelly and Russell Kovach; brothers, Cecil and Larry; Sister, Doris and his rescue dog Bugs.
He is survived by his daughter ,Nancy (Rich) Caldwell; son-in-law,Gary Blakey; granddaughters, Lisa Shannon, Christine Caldwell, and Sandi (Andrew) Bennett, great-grandsons,Joshua,Zack,Clay,Jaret,Jack and Mason;great-great grandchildren, Mikayla and Conner;brother, Darl (Shirley) Somerville; sisters, Erma Grant,Verna Fry,Lois Morley, Rozella Westover, Violet (Dale) Lear and Jeanie McAndrew; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
