Kathryn "Betty" Wingate

Kathryn E. “Betty” Wingate LPN, age 75, of Akron, passed away at home on September 28, 2025, peacefully surrounded by family.

Proceeded in death by her parents, Perry and Lillian Pierce; brother, Robert Pierce; and grandson, Troy McHenry.

Betty is survived by children, James (Robin) McHenry, Jason (Debbie) McHenry, Jennifer (Shon) Enos and Joshua Wingate; sisters, Linda (Jake) Perine, Sandra (Ellis) Byrd and Deborah and Penny Pierce; grandchildren, Todd McHenry, Halle (Ryan) Maxwell and Shorlan and Kendall Enos; as well as many nieces and nephews.

After graduating North High School, she graduated from Akron School of Practical Nursing with an LPN degree. She loved her job working as a visiting nurse for many years before her retirement.

Betty loved her family, her cat Missy, caring for patients in their home, animals of all kinds and thrift shopping.

Her family would like to thank the Summa Hospice team, with a special thank you to Samantha RN and Chaplain Terry; as well as her home health aides, Kaye and DeeDee.

Per Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place and her family is sharing a private graveside service where Betty will be laid to rest with her parents.
