Judy C. McArthur

December 2, 1942 — April 22, 2025

I was born December 2, 1942, at home in Burgoo, West Virginia. There was no electricity due to a snowstorm, so the doctor had to deliver me by candlelight. I was the second child of Raymond and Alice Barker. My father was a coal miner, and my mother stayed home and took care of my brother Bob and me.

We moved to Akron so my parents could get jobs in the rubber factories, where my mother worked in the commissary and was an excellent cook. She always put money back so I would have the best gowns for all the dances.

I met the man of my dreams, who happened to be my brother's friend, and I knew he was the one. He drove past me one day in his 1957 Chevy convertible and whistled. I stuck my tongue out at him little did I know I would be spending the rest of my life with him. We were married August 6, 1960. We had four amazing children: Cindy, Billy, Michelle, and Mike.

My family was the most important part of my life. We spent many summers boating and fishing, with lots of sporting activities that kept me washing uniforms for the next day's games. Plenty of laughter and love filled the house.

After retirement, Bill and I became snowbirds and spent eight months a year in Lakeland, Florida. We had many great days hanging in the pool with friends, though I did miss my children.

On December 14, 2022, I lost the love of my life. I moved back to Akron to be close to my children and enjoy my extended family.

On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, I passed away peacefully with my family by my side. I am survived by my children: Cynthia Kisner (Dave Sommerville), William (Susanne) McArthur, Michelle (Chad) Shultz, and Mike (Theresa) McArthur; grandchildren: Eric (Renata) Lentz, Chad (Linzi) Lentz, Tiffany (Charles) Brinkley, Matthew (Jillian) Traugh, Josh McArthur, and Austin McArthur; great-grandchildren: Jaden, Charlee, Easton, Sebastian, Brooklyn, and Brantley.

For my parting thought: I love you all dearly and am so grateful to have spent the last few years enjoying time together.

Thank you to the staff at Compassionate Care Hospice.
