Jon “Butch” Waller passed away at home on October 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. He was 78.
Born on February 26, 1948, Jon was known to many as Butch. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1966 and went on to build a long and steady career as a machinist, a profession he devoted himself to for 47 years. His work reflected the commitment and dependability that marked so much of his life. He also was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent, Ohio.
Outside of work, Butch enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. He liked to golf and loved riding his Harley. Above all, he loved his wife of 56 years, Cynthia. He will be remembered as an amazing and loving husband, father, and human being, someone whose presence brought strength, warmth, and care to those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Waller, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage; his daughters, Courtney Dawkins and her husband Keith, and Christa Weiss and her husband Matthew; and his granddaughter, Sophia Grace Weiss. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jane Kelsch and Mike Heinen; his brother, Michael Waller and his wife Sherri; his goddaughter, Wendy Kelsch. Nephews, Kenny Kelsch and Brandon Waller. His sister-in-law, Sally Holzer and her husband Larry; his brother-in-law, Jeff Smith and his wife Terri; his nieces, Cynthia Zappola and her husband Nate, and Trisha Mitchell and her husband Jeremy, Dana Smith; and nephew Jeffrey Smith; and many cousins from The Sepi, Smith, and Montoni families.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine Waller.
The love his family holds for him is reflected in the words shared by his niece Trisha: “Uncle Butch I love you so much. I wish every man could be half the man you are.” That sentiment captures the deep admiration and affection so many felt for him. Jon “Butch” Waller will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
The Waller family would like to thank Dr. Naveen Arora as well as Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care.
At Jon's request, there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
