John Rege, 91, passed away December 23, 2014. He was born in Akron, OH January 8, 1923 and was a graduate of East High School Class of 1941. He served briefly in the US Navy during WWII and was involved in the production of the P.B. Martin Escort Aircraft at Goodyear throughout the war. He retired as an electrician from the Akron Board of Education, maintenance division in 1978 after 32 years of service. John loved tinkering and fixing everything from cars to small appliances. He also collected stamps, his great passion, especially during his last few years as his health deteriorated. He spent many hours collecting and trading postage stamps from all over the world. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty Woolcock Rege; and son, William. He is survived by his sister, Ethel (Harold) Messner, of Uniontown; sons; James (Nora) and family, of Macedonia, David of Stow, and Richard (Tracy) and family, of Deerfield; five grandchildren; one niece; and four nephews. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 10am at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron OH 44305. Rev. Fleary Spurlock officiating. Interment Rose Hill Burial Park.
