John Jones

John Jones, 68, of Akron, OH, passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of June 9, 2025.

Born on September 16, 1956, in Rangely, Colorado, John was the oldest of four sons and the son of Stephen Jones and Jimmy (Gillespie) Jones.

John was unapologetically himself-a “take it or leave it” kind of guy who would tease you if he liked you. He was known as the life of the party, the glue that held his family together, and the thorn who wasn’t afraid to ruffle feathers when it was needed. He appreciated the simple things in life-lounging on the couch with his pets, dozing off in his recliner, conning his kids out of milkshakes, sneaking snacks from the kitchen, and attending the local gun show.

The world lost a good man that day, but his memory, his humor, and his unorthodox way of thinking and understanding will remain in our hearts forever.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Jimmy Carol Jones (August 2012); his brother, Doug Jones (March 2025); his grandmother, Maxine Gillaspy (October 2017); his grandfather, Frank “Red” James Gillaspy (October 1986); and numerous other beloved souls.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marie Jones; his father, Stephen Jones (Marti); his brothers, Jeff Jones (Joan) and Artie Jones; his children, Greg Jones (Ashley), Cody Jones (Clarissa), and Lisa Jones (Raven); and his grandchildren, Keaghan, Thackery, and Lilliegh. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends.

Everyone is invited to visit Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. A microphone will be available during the visitation should any loved ones wish to share a memory of John.
