John Herman Phelps, 78, of Tallmadge, passed away suddenly, Saturday, June 27, 2015. John was born in Thomas, West Virginia on October 18, 1936 to the late Herman and Evangeline Phelps. John retired from Crawford Letter Company. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Akron for 46 years and Cypress Lake Presbyterian Church in Florida. John loved spending time with his family, fishing, camping, was the best handyman around, he never met a stranger, and was a friend to everyone he met. In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by his sister, Glenomi Roth; step-mother, Thelma Phelps and infant brother. He is survived by the love of his life of 57 years, Donna Phelps; daughters, Donna (Steve) Snyder, Corinne (Michael) Badgett and Melinda (Perry) Watkins; grandchildren, Danielle Snyder (Jason Miller), Stephanie Snyder (Ger), Melanie King, Jacqui (Adam) Liddle, Christopher Badgett, Cashus Snyder and Nathan Snyder; five great grandchildren; brother, Bill Phelps; sisters, Carolyn (Ron) Lambert, Judy (Frank) Cummins and Ruth Makepeace; step-brothers, Dave (Marge) Huber, Joseph (Annie) Huber, Jim (Bilenda) Huber; brother-In-Law, Chet Roth. Family and friends may call on, Thursday, July 9, 2015 from 4pm to 6pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, where a memorial service will follow at 6pm with Rev. Dr. Mark T.
