John Harry Friend

John Harry Friend, 91, passed away unexpectedly on August 3, 2026. A lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio, John was born to the late John C. and Janie Mae {Byrd} Friend.

John was preceded in death by his son, Kevin, and former spouse Dr. Ruth Friend.

He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Kim (Diane); granddaughters Isabelle (Andrew), Austen, Cami, Kelsey, Corey and Alyssa; grandson, Robert; great-grandson Leo.

John was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Those ideals blended well with his character, and John was known for his kindness, generosity, faith and quirky sense of humor. He lived a long, happy life, cared deeply for his family, and will be greatly missed by all who know and love him.

Well-deserved military honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd. Seville, OH 44273 on Thursday, August 20th at 12:45 p.m. For those wishing to attend, please arrive at the information building at the front of the cemetery no later than 12:25 p.m.

Those who wish may make memorial donations in John's name to the charity of their choice.
