John F. Romine "Johnny", 83, went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2015.
Johnny was born in Ripley, WV and moved to Akron as a young boy. He was a 1950 graduate of East High School and served with the US Navy after high school. After returning from the Navy, he went on to work at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he worked for 48 years. Johnny was an avid fisherman. He was a founding member of the Southland Gospel Boys, having played on the radio for 40+ years, "Bringing you the Gospel in song." Along with his wife, he opened his home to Harmony Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his parents, Florent and Cleora D. Romine; brothers, Roy and William. Survivors include his beloved wife, Naomi Jeanne, of 41 years; children, Anita Graber, Shari (William) Busby, Julie (Kingsley) Ott, Connie (Glen) Kitzmiller, Harold (Glenna) Romine, and Wendy (Chris) Cresong; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, 5-8 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, 1127 Southeast Ave., Tallmadge, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church.
