John Brent Carter, 76, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on October 13, 2026, in Akron. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio on July 2, 1950, to Beatrice and Robert E. Carter.

John graduated from East High School in Akron in 1968. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he began his career with the Akron Postal Service as a maintenance worker. Through dedication and hard work, he advanced into management within the Post Office and retired at the age of 56 after 30 years of service.

John will be remembered as a man with a good sense of humor who was caring, kind, and generous. He enjoyed many simple pleasures and passions throughout his life. He loved following the Lake High School football team and could often be found cheering from the sidelines. He also loved cars and especially enjoyed his sports cars, most notably his red Nissan 370Z, which he fondly called the “Red Rocket.” He appreciated good food and good craft beer, and he was always busy with projects. John made birdfeeders, birdhouses, napkin holders, and many other handcrafted wooden items. He also enjoyed gardening vegetables and canning both mild and hot peppers. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 19 years, Cathy Carter. He also leaves behind his daughters, Lisa Smith and her husband Chris, and Kristi Lutz and her husband Paul; and his stepdaughter, Kimberly Steele and her husband Eric. His family continued to be a great source of pride and joy in his life, and he is also survived by his grandchildren Sam, Ben, Theresa Smith, Amelia Lutz, and Bridget Lutz; his step-grandchildren Ashley Burkhammer and Alyssa Burkhammer; and his step-great-grandchildren Kaden Anderson, Serenity Luke, and Xavier Wills. He is also survived by Sandra Leith, his sister-in-law Becky Carter, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him with affection.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Carter; his father, Robert E. Carter; and his brother, Bill Carter.
