John David Brock, born on August 7, 1938, in Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, in his hometown. He lived a life dedicated to service and community, marked by a career that spanned many notable years as a policeman for the City of Akron and later as a corrections officer. His commitment to law enforcement was further demonstrated through his advancement to the role of detective, where he applied his keen investigative skills and compassion for others.
An alumnus of East High School, John was a proud member of his community. After completing his education, he served in the reserves, a testament to his sense of duty and honor. Throughout his life, people often described him as a character, known for his engaging storytelling and captivating personality. He fondly shared tales of his beloved hot rods, particularly his cherished 1956 Chevy, while also enjoying the simple pleasure of a good cigar in the company of friends and family.
He is survived by his loving daughter Coren (Gregg) Gooch, who brought him much joy, along with his adoring grandchildren Zach (Katherine) Gooch and Molli Gooch, and his great-grandson Nolan, who brightened his later years. In addition to his immediate family, John is remembered by his nieces and nephews, as well.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Walter Brock, as well as his sisters, Jane Roskosh and Joen Timney.
A graveside service in honor of John will be held on September 19, 2025, at East Akron Cemetery, starting at 1:00 PM. The community is invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a dedicated public servant, a cherished family member, and a true friend.
