John W. Bane died unexpectedly on February 4 at his residence in Kent, Ohio. Though John lived in numerous areas of the country from Maui to Bucks County, Pa., he spent most of his life in Northeast Ohio communities.
John was interested in the arts. He both wrote and acted in theater productions from Grove City College to the Maui Community Players. He performed in musicals throughout Germany during his enlistment in the Army. John was also on the staff at KNUI (Maui) as a newsreader. John was always ready for a deep discussion on film and literature.
John graduated in 1974 from Howland High School and attended classes at several institutions of higher learning. Some of John’s fondest memories were growing up in Warren during the heyday of the Sixties. He often spoke of how much he appreciated the sacrifices his parents made for him which enabled him to have an idyllic childhood which included all the good times at the cottage on Conneaut Lake.
Most of John’s professional life was in the food service industry at restaurants from Hawaii to Texas and from Warren to Lambertville, New Jersey. He also worked for a while in the title insurance business.
John was active in the New Horizons Christian Church as an Elder, a member of the Praise Team, and through his ministry of greeting people at the sanctuary door.
At one time John was married to a Playboy Playmate of the Month (a fact he was always proud to share). John is predeceased by his father David Bane, Sr., and mother Fay D. Bane as well as niece Natalie. He is survived by twin brother Jim (Holly), brother Dave, and nephews Noah, Evan (Darley), Jacob (Heather), and Joshua.
Memorials may be given in honor of John to the “If Not Now, When?” fund at the New Horizons Christian Church.
A memorial service will be held on Monday February 9 at 11am at the New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305, and the family will receive visitors at the church from 10am - 11am. Burial will take place at a later date.
