Joseph Peter Reed (Joey)

Joseph Peter Reed, affectionately known as Joey, age 45, of Brimfield, Ohio, passed away Wednesday morning, December 10, 2025, at Summa Akron City Hospital. After a courageous three-year and one-month battle with cancer, Joey was reunited in Heaven with his beloved parents, Bernard and Renee Reed, of Brimfield, Ohio.

Joey was born on December 28, 1979, and raised in Northeast Ohio. He graduated from Field High School in 1999. From a young age, Joey was driven, competitive, and gifted with an uncommon sense of direction and determination. He competed in numerous races, competitions, and bass tournaments, consistently earning top-three finishes and first-place wins in every competition he entered.

In his younger years, Joey raced BMX bikes alongside his older brother, Bernie. The bond they shared was unbreakable. Whether on land or water—fishing from shore, boat, wading, or ice—no matter the conditions, they were inseparable. They fished through ice just inches thick or more than a foot deep, drilling a hole no bigger than a hand, dropping in a secret bait, and soon filling buckets with fish. There truly wasn’t anything one did without the other throughout their lives.

Joey also shared a close and protective bond with his sister, Tammy. Though she did not share the same passion for hunting and fishing, Joey’s love and instinct to protect his sister were always evident to those who knew the Reed family. Their parents lovingly cared for each of them, laying a foundation of faith, love, and family that would shape their lives forever.

From an early age, Joey’s parents took the time to teach, guide, and nurture their children—teaching them about Jesus and God’s love, praying with them, and thanking God for every blessing. After long shifts at work, Joey’s father still found time to teach his children how to shoot, how to bait a hook, how to ride a bike, and most importantly, to always be there for one another. Joey, Bernie, and Tammy carried that legacy into adulthood.

Joey lived that legacy through his own life and through his children. With his daughter, Troyanna, he shared and instilled the same love for Jesus and family that his parents instilled in him. When Joey met his wife, Bekka, and became a father figure to Zoey, his heart grew even larger. Joey loved fiercely, deeply, and without reservation.

The grief felt by those who loved Joey is profound and unshakable, a reflection only of how deeply he loved in return. As much as Joey loved the outdoors, his greatest love on this earth—aside from Jesus—was his family. He cherished time spent with his loved ones and found his greatest joy in seeing excitement and wonder in their eyes when experiencing something amazing for the first time. That joy, that light, now lives on in them, just as it shone so brightly through Joey.

Joey is survived by his beloved wife, Bekka; his daughters, Troyanna and Zoey; his sister, Tammy, friend Archie, and her son Michael; his brother, Bernie, and his wife Angie, and their children Hannah, Hailey, and Hunter; along with many aunts, uncles, extended family members, and countless close friends.

Joey will be forever loved and forever missed.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

—2 Timothy 4:7–8

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

—Psalm 73:26
