Janice Marie Swaino

Janice Marie Swaino, born on October 28, 1938, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories. Janice’s 87 years on this earth were filled with dedication to her family, loyalty to her friends and co-workers, and a genuine warmth that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Devoted wife to the late Paul Swaino Jr., Janice and Paul shared a remarkable marriage spanning 58 years—a testament to their enduring partnership and deep commitment to one another. Together, they built a loving home and raised a family strong in connection and kindness. Janice’s mother, Rose Marie Nelson, and step-mother, Edith Dunham, also preceded her in death, as did her beloved grandchild, Aaron Swaino.

Janice is lovingly remembered by her children: her daughter, Debbie (Mark) Rohner; and her sons, Paul (Debbie Gill) Swaino and Gordon (Sherri) Swaino. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Christopher Rohner, Craig (Brittany) Rohner, DeeAnna (Jeff) Price, Anthony (Courtney) Swaino, Amy (Doug) Jones, James (Judy) Gill, and Heather (Reggie) Bergman. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Eli Rohner, Dunham Rohner, Mia Price, Brie Price, Grant Jones, Wes Jones, Sydney Gill, Shelby Gill, and Pierce Bergman. Their lives have been enriched and guided by her gentle spirit and generous heart.

Family was at the center of Janice’s world. She loved nothing more than gathering with her loved ones, sharing stories, laughter, and traditions that will long outlast her days. Her spirit embraced each member of her family, and her support, wisdom, and affection provided a firm foundation for generations.

Janice’s dedication extended beyond her home into her professional life. She worked diligently at Kroger's in Barberton and Portage Lakes IGA , where her reliable presence and friendly demeanor made her a valued colleague and friend. Later, she served as a cashier at Al’s Meat Market, where her warm smile became a familiar and welcome sight to many in the community.

In moments of leisure, Janice’s passions shone brightly. She had a great love for vacationing in Florida, relishing the chance to enjoy warmer days and new adventures. Janice also treasured the simple pleasures—especially gathering to play Euchre with Pork and Alice, a pastime that offered joy and camaraderie. Her love for animals was evident in her affection for her dogs, Muzzette, Bridgette, and Babette, each a loyal companion who brought her comfort and happiness across the years.

Janice’s kindness, humor, and unwavering loyalty will be dearly missed. She leaves behind a legacy defined by her compassion, steadfastness, and the many lives she touched along her journey. The precious memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

A graveside service in honor and remembrance of Janice Marie Swaino will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 100 East Waterloo Road, Akron, OH 44319, on August 18, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Though Janice is no longer with us, her love, strength, and enduring spirit will live on in those who were privileged to know her.
