James William Thomas, of Green, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on December 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 87. Born in Akron on May 30, 1938, he was a lifelong resident of the area and a pillar of his community.

James began his distinguished 44-year career with the Ford Motor Company in 1959. His work was proudly interrupted when he answered the call to serve his country as a Vietnam War Veteran from 1961 to 1963. After his honorable service, he returned to Ford and continued his dedicated career until his retirement in 2003.

James was a man of many passions. He was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying football, bowling, and golf. His family will fondly remember the joyous summers and cookouts spent together, creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. The many summers at the lake, Bakers Acres, Munroe Falls, and Hocking Hills were among their most memorable events.

He was known for his no-nonsense, disciplinarian nature, and a powerful presence that was felt the moment he entered a room. You always knew when Dad was there. His strength and character left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

James is now reunited with his beloved wife of 53 years, Bonnie Thomas (1943-2017). He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Sophie {Cole} Thomas and his two brothers, Bob and Billy Thomas. He is survived by his two remaining brothers, Ray (Marie Ann) and Larry Thomas. He was a devoted father to his children: Donald Thomas, Mark (Brister) Thomas, Tracie (John) Bartlebaugh, and Michael Thomas.

His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Abby; Mary-Brister (Justin) Benson, Golda-Gray, and Harlow-Launa; Matthew, Alexis (Cole) Basler, Beau, Hollie, and Natalie; Andrew, Steven, and Rachel. His grandchildren will forever remember the special times they shared, from the bonfires to the exciting tractor and golf cart rides. James was also blessed with the recent arrival of his great-grandson, Augustus Benson. He will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews, and his beloved whack-a-doodle, Jack.

Cremation has taken place. Well-deserved military honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd. Seville, OH 44273 at a date and time to be determined. Please return for details. For those who wish, donations in James' memory are suggested to One-of-a-Kind Pets. To leave a special message for James' family, please visit the guest book below.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Traditions Health, Home Hospice for the loving care and support they provided during this emotional time.
