James D. Litz

James D. Litz, age 69, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 8, 2025, after an incredibly courageous 11-year battle with cancer. Throughout his fight, James faced each day with remarkable strength, resilience, and an unwavering positive spirit that inspired all who knew him. He was born on March 17, 1956, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Edward Litz and Doris Hudson, and grew up in the Akron area. James was a proud graduate of Springfield High School, Class of 1974, where he formed lasting friendships and created fond memories.

For over 40 dedicated years, James was a valued and respected employee of Americhem, where his hard work and commitment were evident to his colleagues. He was a member of Lakeview Christian Church, where he found spiritual guidance and connection with his faith.

James was a man who truly embraced life and treasured the bonds he shared with others. Known for his wonderful sense of humor and his easy-going, laid-back demeanor, James had a way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and at ease. He had a deep love for the game of golf, finding joy and camaraderie on the course with his many friends. These friendships were a cornerstone of his life, and he cherished the laughter and support they provided. James was genuinely loved by so many, a testament to his kind heart, his warm smile, and his generous nature. He and his beloved wife of 44 years, Jodie, built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures, including countless cherished moments spent relaxing and creating memories aboard their adored boat at Lake Erie. The lake was a special place for them both, offering tranquility and a backdrop for many happy times.

James will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Jodie; his loving daughters, Michaela (Jonathan) Magrell and Katie (Andrew) Haney; grandchildren, Karlie, Cameron and Madilyn; and his faithful canine companion, Jacie, who brought him much comfort and joy. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, William (Janice) Litz and Danny (Joyce) Litz; his sister-in-law, Donna Litz; his best friends, Dick Castilow and Danny Pratt, who were steadfast companions throughout his life; as well as numerous other cherished family members, including nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a wide circle of dear friends.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Litz.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305, on Wednesday, April 16th from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. A memorial service celebrating James' life will follow at 4:30 PM at the funeral home.
