James J. Jenkins, 71, of Tallmadge went to his eternal resting place in Heaven, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Parkinsons, and Dimentia.
James retired from the Akron Police Department after 27 years of service, after which he drove bus for Tallmadge City Schools for nine years. He received his master's degree in Christian Ministry from Malone College.
He loved spending time with his family, vacationing at Ormond Beach, especially shopping trips to Publix. He was a member of Northwest Ave. Church of Christ where he loved spending time with his Life Group. He loved bowling on the WII and watching Ohio State football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Thelma Jenkins; father and mother-in-law, Don and Donna Krizo.
James is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Bonnie; sons, Jamie (Tish) and Doug (Amy); daughters, Tracy (Scott) Hawkins, Kristen (Rick) Preece and Michele Yaworsky; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Betty), Bob (Barb) and sister, Jackie (Ron) Winkler and many other loved ones.
The family would like to say a special thank you to all of the doctors and nurses at the Hospice Care Center on Ridgewood Rd for the loving care during this difficult time.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 5 to 8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd Akron. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 11am with Pastor Scott Baker officiating. In honoring James's wishes he will be cremated after services.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Hospice Care Center or Northwest Ave. Church of Christ.
