James "Lonnie" Edwards, Sr., 66, resident of New Franklin, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014 in Barberton, Ohio. He was born December 27, 1947 in Akron, Ohio to the late James and Mildred Edwards. Lonnie loved classic cars, fishing, and being 'PaPa' to his grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was awarded several honors including the Purple Heart. He retired from First Energy and previously owned his own remodeling and home repair business.
Lonnie is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Judy (Fish) Edwards; sons, James "Lonnie" Edwards, Jr. and John D. (Bonnie) Edwards; brother, Eugene (Janice) Weiss; sisters, Opal (Eric) Cetina and Dot (Carl) Hunnell; brother-in-law, John Fish; grandchildren, Gabby, Andrew, Ona, Tyler, Katie, Robert, Branden, Victoria, J.D., and Harlow; 2 Aunt Betty's, 2 Aunt Emma's, and Aunt Ginnie; many other relatives and friends.
Friends and family may call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the funeral home. Final resting place will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to donor's choice.
