James A. Grow, 92, of Springfield Township, passed away April 19, 2014.
Jim was born May 18, 1921 in Uniontown, PA to the late Abraham and Margaret Grow. Jim was a member of The Chapel since 1952 where he served with his wife, Marjorie as teacher and as department head over grades 1 through 6 in the Sunday School Department for 25 years. He was a retiree of Firestone Tire & Rubber and was also a custom-home builder; leaving his handprint throughout the Akron area. After his retirement from Firestone, his devotion to serving the Lord continued as a volunteer for the Missions of The Chapel where he could use his talents and building expertise to bless others. His work took him and his wife to Alaska where he built homes for those who would later come to work for a Christian radio station; to Arizona where he and his wife served the Navajo Gospel Missions; to California where he and his wife helped rebuild a Christian college, all the while, humble---not boastful---and praising God for each day. Jim was a WWII veteran, having served with the US Navy.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Marjorie; his son, Randy; grandsons, Jimmie Bair and J. D. Grow; sisters, Betty Blackburn, Jean Romesburg, Anna Tenney, Madge Rose, and Wanda Stewart.
He is survived by sons, Ben (Rose) Grow and Jonathan Grow; and daughters, Karen (Bob) Fee, Peggy (Dick) Reid, Maureen (Terry) Adams, and Kathy Harris; 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
