Howard Carl Graybeal
Howard Carl Graybeal, 90, of Akron, passed away peacefully on Dec. 14, 2010, surrounded by family. He was born on Nov. 28, 1920 in Ashe County, NC to Thomas and Ella (Osborn) Graybeal. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV in 1939, he worked for 17 years in the coal mines. He married Virginia Martin on August 9, 1941 and moved to Akron in 1959. He worked at Roadway Express and retired from the Teamsters in 1982. He was a master mason in the Beckley Lodge #95 of the Grand Lodge in WV, A.F.&A.M. and a member of the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of West Virginia. He enjoyed fixing cars, playing cards, watching boxing and baseball and became a computer whiz at the age of 77. Family was the most important thing in his life. Carl is survived by his wife of 69 years, Virginia Graybeal; four children, David (Kay) Graybeal, Donna (Bill) Conley, Danny Graybeal, and Debbie Sitter; twelve grandchildren, Jenny (Eric) Walls, Howard (Theresa) Graybeal, Katie (Brian) Eskridge, Daniel Graybeal, Ron (Tara) Black, Brandi (Pat) Neman, Shaun (Stephanie) Richardson, Amberlyn (Joe) Warner, Mike (Tina) Conley, Steven Conley, Kathy (Matt) Logan, and Brian Conley; 18 great-grandchildren, David, D'Artanyon, Andy, Mike, Alex, Bryce, Jacob, Andrea, Trystan, Emily, Patrick (Jen), Ashley, Brandon, Matt, Steven, Vicky, Ryan, and Tim; and 19 nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses at ICU and the Acute Palliative Care Unit at Akron City Hospital. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Visitation on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 followed by an 11:30 a.m. funeral service with Pastor John Phillips and Ron Black officiating at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, 1767 Goodyear Blvd. Interment at Tallmadge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goodyear Heights Baptist Church.
