Hilda F. Clay

On August 3, 2026 Hilda Clay took her last breaths before peacefully going to be with her Lord at the age of 88. She was born on February 13, 1938 in Smithville, Ritchie Co, West Virginia. She moved to Massillon, OH in 1953 and later moved to Akron, OH in 2000.

Hilda’s sweet, happy spirit and contagious smile showed God’s love to all who crossed her path. When she found her savior, Jesus, he became her reason for living. She was a faithful member of Grace Cathedral in Akron, Ohio, which she began attending in 1954, first joining Angel’s Grace Cathedral choir and later as an employee in the Cleaning/Janitorial Department. She often joked that she cleaned bathrooms for Jesus. She enjoyed making bead bracelets and ribbon crosses for the churches missionary program during the time Rev. Ernest Angley had crusades in the foreign nations. She loved taking trips to “Amish Country” in Ohio and Michigan.

Hilda is preceded in death by her husband, Homer A. Clay; father and mother, Earnest and Sylvia L. (Varner) Sullivan; brother, Ronald L. Sullivan and grandson, Samuel S. Ross.

Hilda is survived by her children: Alan Rocky (Carol) Lowther, Patricia (Terry) Lowther Floyd and Mark A. (Melissa) Clay; her grandchildren: Holly (Brandon) Johnson and Nadia Clay; her sister, Annabelle Beck; brother Ernest “Bud” (Yvonne) Sullivan; and sister-in-law, Kathy Sullivan as well as nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Brookfield Cemetery in Massillon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Cathedral’s mission program, ‘Growing In Grace’ in Hilda’s honor.
