Hazel Louise Champ (Shilts), 89, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014. She was born on July 16, 1924 in Akron, Ohio to the late Melvin and Edna Boone. Hazel retired from Custom Beverage as an office manager and loved quilting and crocheting for her loved ones. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother who made every family member feel as if they were her favorite.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond Champ and sisters Helen Ellinwood and Ethel Basse. She is survived by her children; Nancy (Russell Miller) Woodall, Roy (Darla) Shilts, Judy (Grayson) Corder and Joyce Richmond, 6 grandchildren; Faith (Troy) Johnson, Harmony (Wayne) Triplett, Julie (Morgan) Knox, Roy Shilts, Jr. (Sarah), Richard Shilts (Cazzi) and Melanie (Brock) Anderson, 4 great grandchildren; Tiffany Rae (Paul) Kotopka, Rachel Johnson (Max), Brayden Triplett and Brock Anderson, Jr., special friends Grace Agner and Earl Hoch and many relatives. The family wishes to thank the staff at Rose Lane Nursing Home and the doctors and nurses in the Palliative Care Unit at Summa for the wonderful care provided to Mom.
Friends and family may call 5-8 pm on Friday, January 31, 2014 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305. A funeral service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the funeral home. Final resting place will be at Hillside Memorial Park.
