Gwen J. Gowens

Gwendolyn J. Gowens, 83, of Akron, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026. She was born in Paducah, Kentucky, on July 5, 1942, the daughter of the late Leo and Maxine Gordon.Gwen dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse and later retired after 20 years of dedicated service from Akron General Hospital. She was also a beautician for many years. Gwen was a woman of deep faith who spent many hours studying the Word of God. She was a member of The Chapel of Green. Throughout her life, Gwen had many accomplishments, but her greatest joy was her love of family. She treasured dinner and conversation around the table. No one ever left her home hungry. 

Gwen was well known for her delicious cooking, and her family always looked forward to her special Divinity candy with pecans.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Patricia Bigelow.

Gwen is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Howard M. Gowens; sons Keith (Kristie) Gowens, Kyle (Lisa) Gowens, and Kevin (Michelle) Gowens; grandchildren Morgan (Ben) Fuchs and Kyle Jr. (Ashley) Gowens; great-grandsons Jonas Fuchs and Owen Fuchs; sister Loann Nathanson; and many other cherished relatives and friends.Per Gwen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. 

Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
