Girlie M. Abercrombie, a true Southern lady, was born February 7, 1917, in Hall County, Georgia, and passed onto Heaven on November 29, 2014.
She greatly missed her husband, James Duffie Abercrombie, who preceded her in death on April 10, 1993. She often said that the first people she wanted to see in Heaven would be Duffie and her mother. Girlie raised three fine daughters, Lois Millard, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, B. Marie May (Monzel), of Akron, and Alice Abbott (Tom), of Cle Elum, Washington. Girlie was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her brother, J.T. Morris, and her sister, Ola Belle Norris, and leaves behind her 3 daughters, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, and special friends, Jackie Moon, Barb Cannon, Sarah Smith, Donna Dalrymple, and Tina Jaggers.
Girlie came to Akron in 1943 to join her husband who had started work at Goodyear during the Second World War. All through her years in Akron, she never lost her wonderful Southern accent or practice of Southern hospitality. Girlie will be remembered for her many wonderful attributes, including her famous Southern biscuits and chocolate -covered pecan candy that she gave to many people.
