Gilbert L. Barnett

Gilbert L. Barnett, 78, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on March 8, 2017. He was blessed to be married to his loving wife of almost 60 years. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a self taught man who created a very successful tool grinding business that he ran for over 40 years. He enjoyed his years as a director of the Akro-nites Majorette and Drum Corp working with all of his children and the other group members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Georgia Barnett; and brother, Ray Barnett.

Gilbert is survived by wife, Sandra; daughters, Kim (Chris) Tunstall; Missy Evans, Shari Whittington; son, David "Barney" Barnett; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his loving dog, Cookie. Family will receive friends on Tuesday March 14, 2017 from 5-8pm and Gilbert's Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday March 15, 2017 at 1pm at Newcomer Funeral Home 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305. Friends may visit one hour prior to service. Joseph Lee officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Hospice of Summa.
