Gerald B. Sumner "Jerry"
Gerald B. Sumner, 88, of Akron, passed away on October 27, 2012. He was born on March 19, 1924 in Cadiz, Kentucky to the late Chester and Stella Sumner. Jerry served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He retired from Goodyear in 1985 after 43 years of service. He was a dedicated member of AA for 38 years. In his free time, he was an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his only grandson, Dale Testerman. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 66 years, Donna; children, Roy D. Sumner, Michael R. Sumner, and Paula J. Breese; sister, Marie Futrell; brother, Lexie (Dixie) Sumner; grandchildren, Shelley (Joe) Dercole, Taylor Sumner, and Tara Sumner; and great-grandchildren, Allie and Lexie Dercole.
Visitation will be TODAY October 29 from 4-7 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m. funeral service with Rev. O. Homer Burket officiating at Springfield Fellowship Church, 830 Ewart Rd., Akron, 44312 (Springfield Twp.). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
