Georgene Anderson

February 14, 1936 — April 19, 2016

On April 19, 2016, our beloved mother and best friend, Georgene Anderson, went home to rest in the arms of Jesus Christ. She loved life and saw the good in every situation. She was a beautiful person inside and out with a contagious smile, laugh, and her beautiful blue eyes just twinkled. When you met our mom you had a friend for life. She loved traveling, relaxing at the ocean, riding her lawnmower and scooter, working in her yard, flowers, reading, holidays, family gatherings, 50's music, Cambridge, Amish country, WNIR, marbles, Naples, FL, Sannibel Island, dogs (especially Emily), nature, laundry, crafts, rubber bands, and lottery tickets. She was a loyal supporter of all veteran associations.

Georgene was a very dedicated hard-working employee of Akron General Medical Center for 48 years. She retired in 2000 and continued to work until 2003. Her love of the Lab started when mom was a patient in St. Francis Hospital in Cambridge, Ohio. Dr. Paul Huth mentored her. When mom retuned to Akron, she started at the hospital in December of 1955. She started working 14 hr. shifts as a supervisor on nights for 6 1/2 years in all Lab departments, in blood bank for 15 years then in chemistry. Georgene was honored at a recognition in 2012 for helping to save the life of Akron Police Officer Frank Mancini after he had been shot in 1965. Her expertise in blood bank attributed to that. Mom was a 1954 East High School graduate and really enjoyed attending the class reunion lunches. Mom taught us unconditional love, respect, integrity and monetary value in working hard to pay our own way in life. We are forever blessed and grateful for the years as she fulfilled all the roles of a single mother. There wasn't a household project that she couldn't conquer and successfully repair.

She leaves behind daughter Becky (Ed Malecki), son Jeffrey, her dog Emily, cousins Tom (Pam), Connie (Chris), Tony (Beth), nieces and nephews, and many close and dear friends from Akron General Lab and others too numerous to mention.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Alice Ferrell; grandmother, Kathron Shaw; sister, Kathy Thompson, and brother, James Zelena.

Special thank you to our close friend Dr. William Schukay, Dr. David Watkins & Associates, Dr. Blessing Godwin for her perseverance, keeping faith and giving us hope in Mom's recovery, close friend Angie at Fifth Third Bank, and the nurses that allowed Emily to spend time with her mom in the hospital.
