George Donaldson
George Donaldson passed away on October 8, 2015. He was born July 23, 1934 in Glasgow, Scotland to Mary and Campbell Donaldson. He was a member of the Boys Brigade and an avid bicyclist. He immigrated to Akron, Ohio in 1952 and worked at Akron Standard Mold as a proud union machinist for the next 44 years. He met and married the love of his life Marlene in January 1957. He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959 and was stationed in Texas and Germany. George and Marlene settled in Goodyear Heights and raised three sons. He received his citizenship in 1968. George was active in the Boy Scouts and Faith United Methodist Church. He enjoyed boating, camping, remodeling his home, driving his sports car at 100 mph, reading, cooking, baking his famous shortbread, and music. Most of all, he loved playing with his grandchildren and walking in the park with his two dogs, Robbie and Fergus. He was a founding member of the Akron & District Pipe Band where he played the tenor drum.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, son Kevin, and brother James. He will be deeply missed by his wife Marlene; sons George R. and James (Donna); grandchildren Morgan Victoria and Andrew James; and brother Neil.
George will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 2-7 p.m. at The Funny Stop Comedy Club, 1757 State Rd, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.
