Gary E. Hamrick, a devoted husband, loving father, compassionate grandfather, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 26, 1935, in Webster Springs, West Virginia, Gary led a life characterized by hard work, honesty, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved.
As an Automotive supervisor for General Motors, Gary embraced the values of diligence and teamwork, contributing significantly to his field while enjoying a fulfilling career. His education at Webster Springs High School was a source of pride for him, shaping the foundation of his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Gary was known for his warmth and generosity. He delighted in spending time with his family and friends, particularly during long breakfasts where laughter and heartfelt conversation flowed freely. His love for family was evident in everything he did, especially in his hobbies, which included playing around of golf, computer games, indulging in bingo, and showcasing his artistic side through woodwork and creating family CD collages. He found joy in building birdhouses and cherished every opportunity to create lasting memories with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Steven (Joanne Hamrick) Hamrick, Stepson, Eric Melton (Terri), daughters, Jana Hamrick, Cynthia Hamrick and stepdaughter Becky Iuliano (Gary); brother, Terry (Rita Hamrick) Hamrick; and eleven cherished grandchildren.
Gary's heart held a deep affection for those he lost along the way. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Hamrick; his second wife, Verna Marie Hamrick; son, Brian Hamrick; and stepson, Troy Melton. He also mourned the passing of his father, Doy Hooker Hamrick; mother, Jana Elaine Hamrick; and brothers, Larry Hamrick, Doy Hamrick, and Mendel Hamrick.
Although he has left this earthly realm, Gary's legacy will continue through his family. He took immense pride in watching them grow, finding fulfillment in their triumphs and joys. As we remember him, we honor a life well-lived, a heart full of love, and a spirit that will forever shine brightly in the hearts of those he touched.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN, on November 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Further visitation will take place at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Akron, on November 5, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Final resting place is Northlawn Memorial Garden Mausoleum. The family invites all who knew and loved Gary to join them in celebrating his remarkable life and the countless memories he created.
