Gary Lee Cox (Cowboy), 78, passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born in Akron, Ohio to Charles C. Cox and Betty E. (Johnson) Cox, Gary resided in Mogadore the majority of his adult life. Gary graduated from East High School in 1965, and he served in the Ohio National Guard for 6 years during the Vietnam era. Gary's favorite activity was softball, and he played on a multitude of teams from his late teens through his early seventies. Gary’s softball pinnacle came in 2003, when his Eastern National Senior Softball Team won a U.S. National Championship. In addition to softball, Gary also participated in many other sports throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brothers C. Douglas Cox and C. David Cox. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years Mary Lou Cox; children Lesa Stott and Christopher Cox; grandchildren Kristy (Dave) Hansen, Tiffany (Jeremy) Dotson, and Thomas Stott; great grandchildren Parker Dotson and Ginny Hansen; sister-in-law Patricia (Dave) Hawk; niece Amanda Hawk; sister-in-law Cheryl (David) Cox; and brother-in-law Glenn (Jennifer) Robertson.

The Cox family will have a celebration of Gary's life at a later date.
