Evelyn S. (Alexander) Brice
Evelyn S. (Alexander) Brice, 86, of Akron, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 30, 2013. She was born on February 24, 1927 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the late Rosie & Eddie Towns. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Poplar Hill A.M.E. Church in Fayette, Mississippi. She moved to Akron, Ohio over 53 years ago. She was affectionately known as "Granny" to all that came to know her. Working as a caregiver and later at the Holiday Inn where she retired. Her hobbies were cooking (she made the best cornbread dressing and tea cakes), traveling (if you said "Granny, we're taking a trip in June," she was packed 3 months ahead of time), and her crossword puzzles (she would work on them all day). She was the root and we were her fruit.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded death by her children, Carrie, Mattie, Eddie and Willie; granddaughter, LaToya; and great-granddaughters, Doniquia and Markayla. Granny will be deeply missed by her children, Percy (Vera) Alexander, Dunbar (Barbara) Alexander, Walter Alexander, Cornelious Alexander, Rosemary Harrison, Martha (Melvin) Chambers, Doris Williams, Betty (David) Hamlin and Claude Lee (Jackie) Hudson; siblings, Eddie (Cleo) Towns, Aretta Overton, and Lagusta Towns; 38 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, May 10 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. followed by a 12 noon funeral service with Pastor Fred Lester and Pastor Aubrey Walker officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to 1465 White Ave., Akron OH 44307.
