Evalee A. Vernon
Evalee A. Vernon, 90, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2015 after a brief, but courageous second battle with cancer. Evalee was born on March 8, 1925 in Parsons, WV, moving to Akron at a young age. She attended East High School and worked at Firestone Tire & Rubber Co in salary payroll and finished her 30 plus year career as a Production Planner. She was a devoted wife to Robert for 63 years, before his death in 2005. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends, Sunday brunches and the occasional trip to a casino to try her luck on the slot machines. She was a member of the Congregational Church, Ellet Keenagers and the VFW Auxiliary #8975.
She was preceded in death by her parents, McClure and Etta Jones; her loving husband, Robert; her sister, Icie Miller; brothers, McClure Jr. (Mickey) and Collas Jones; and grandson, David Fraser. She was a loving mother of two children and is survived by daughter, Diane (Keith) Fraser; son, Wayne (Karen) Vernon; four grandchildren, Ron (Jennifer) Fraser, Kristine (Tony) Bisesi, Tricia and Robert Vernon; and four great-grandchildren, Derek and Erin Fraser, Kyle and Justin Bisesi. She also is survived by her sister and best friend, Elsie DeLong; and sisters-in-law, Gloria Stancich of Gig Harbor, Wash., Virginia Jones of WV, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to her home caregivers, Tabitha, Brandy, Sandy, Tiffany, and Debbie, Summa Hospice home care, and Dr. James Salem, who always gave her hope.
Friends may call from 12 to 1 on Saturday, December 19, at Springfield Baptist Church, 1920 Krumroy Rd, Akron, OH 44312 with a memorial service celebrating her life immediately following, Pastor Larry Baldridge officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Summa Hospice, Springfield Baptist Church, or your charity of choice.
