"Together Again"
Eugene “Gene” Gerbec, age 93, passed away on December 23, 2025. He was born in Barberton, Ohio, and was a longtime member of Nativity of the Lord Jesus Church.
Gene is survived by his children, Laura Swartz, Lisa Benton (Eric), Sue Magee (Jack) and by his cherished granddaughter, Madison Swartz, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond and cared for him with deep love and devotion. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends.
Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was an accomplished accordion and button box musician, well known for playing at weddings, picnics, the FOP Lodge, and the Hungarian Club. People traveled from near and far to hear him play. He recorded several albums and records, including “The Pauline Waltz,” written in honor of his beloved wife, Pauline, who preceded him in death, “The Kenmore Polka,” and numerous other polkas and songs.
Gene was also a loyal Cleveland Indians fan.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Church, 2425 Myersville Rd., Akron, Ohio 44312.
Following the Memorial Mass, there will be a Celebration of Life at Uncle Tito's Mexican Grill, 2215 E. Waterloo Rd., Akron, Ohio 44312.
